The Hydrologic Cycle | How A Well Works | FAQ's

The technology behind water wells has changed since the days of the hand-dug well and the carrying of buckets. What was once the gathering place for a community has become the first step in creating a home site. The Montana water well drilling industry faces unique terrain that demands the experience and technology of Allwest Drilling, Inc. When making a water well, Allwest drills through the overburden (gravel, sand, topsoil, etc.) to the water-bearing bedrock below. Casing lines the drilled hole, protecting the well from contaminated water. A submersible pump pushes the water to a basement holding tank, so when you turn the faucet natural unprocessed water flows. The picture below illustrates the workings of a submersible pump.
